Once you’ve been doing CrossFit for a while, you tend to accumulate a lot of shoes. There’s different ones for every kind of workout, sometimes multiple shoes to wear in the course of one hour long class. There’s the constant debate over which shoe is the best for each movement: Nanos, Metcons, No Bulls, lifters, minimal shoes, etc. Which shoe is best for running / rope climbs / jump rope / squatting / etc… the list goes on and on.
We’re fine with lots of different shoes, but if you suffer from any kind of foot pain, ankle pain, or just can’t balance yourself on one foot for a period of time, we recommend this podcast: http://themovementfix.com/49-feet-ankles-toes-nick-st-louis/ There are some good takeaways here that we can all benefit from hearing. If you’re crunched for time, just remember what your coaches are always preaching: go barefoot when you can, and when you have to wear shoes, the flatter the better. And don’t get us started on high heels. High heels are for date night, flats are for work!
Take care of your feet, they are full of amazing, hard working muscles and bones that will take care of you. You ask a lot of your feet everyday; don’t forget to show them a little love.
