The Open is OVER! And now that we’re finally coming off this long, cold winter and ALL the rowing, it’s time to get our running legs back! If you’re feeling a little CrossFit fatigued after the Open, or just want to get outside and enjoy the weather, April is a great time to hit the road or trail for a run. At 919 we want all our members to feel confident that they can run a minimum of 3 miles at the drop of a hat (even if they don’t want to do it). That’s new for some people, and we don’t all start with that capacity, but we can get there with a little practice, and 919 is there to help.
Wednesday mornings at 5:30 am Coach Bree is coaching 30 minutes of aerobic capacity work before the 6 am WOD. This is focused on running and will mostly take place right outside the gym for anyone who can make it. And you’ve probably already noticed more shuttle runs popping up in our workouts. You’ll continue to see a focus on these skills over the next weeks.
April 22 we’re teaming up with Fleet Feet Sports Durham and hosting a free running clinic from 9 – 11 am, open to the local CrossFit community. We’re really excited about a morning of technique work and proper running form instruction. Fleet Feet will lead the clinic, with assistance from 919 Coaches Jason and Bree. If running makes your back or shins hurt, or you just want to brush up on proper form, this is the class for you! Check out the facebook event on the 919 page for more details!
There are lots of 5Ks and 10Ks in the area coming up (Komen Race for the Cure is May 5!), as well as some excellent longer distance races in the Fall. So whether you just want to make running metcons easier or you’ve got your eye on a race, now’s the time to get outside and get started!
